Break-n’ the Rulz: Hip Hop & American Film

Join us for a lecture and discussion including film clips from important U.S. American hip-hop films dating from the 1980s until today, representing over 40 years of impact. Richard J. Powers, Lecturer at Stuttgart University and Emeritus Professor of English, University of Maryland University College, will entertain us with highlights from groundbreaking films showing how the popularity of early hip hop movies increased awareness through popular culture, leading to commercial successes in fashion, art and music. Following the presentation, audience members are encouraged to ask questions and participate in active discussion. Snacks and beverages will be available.
